Halloween Events for Tweens and Teens in McHenry County

17 & 24 October 3:00 p.m. Teen Movie Matinees
{Harvard} Bring your after school snack and watch movies to get ready for Halloween. We’ll have a movie showing every Thursday in October. These movie screenings are open ONLY to youth in grades 6-12.

18 & 19 October 7:00 p.m. Haunted Hayride
{McHenry} $8 per person, a portion of the proceeds are donated to a local food pantry. Mid-October is when Henry Deadwood emerges on Peterson Park in McHenry. To him, this place is known as ‘Deadwood Forest’ where he and his gangling group of relatives and misfits entertain spirits, ghosts, and goblins. Embark on this haunted hayride and you too can get a glimpse of this terrifying group.

17 October 5:00 p.m. Stranger Things Light Board
Registration Required 
{Algonquin} Re-create the Stranger Things light alphabet by using the library’s Arduino board to program a light display.
For teens registered in advance.

17 October 7:00 p.m. Pumpkin Palooza for Teens
Registration Required 
{Johnsburg} The library provides the pumpkins you provide the creativity! For ages 12 to 18 with advance registration.

23 October 3:30 p.m. Candy Monsters
Registration Required
{Harvard} Youth in grades 6-12 can visit the library to create your own creepy candy monsters.

24 October 3:30 p.m. Creepy Candle Art
{Algonquin} Transfer your own creepy designs onto a white pillar candle! For teens.

25 October 5:00 p.m. Locked in the LIbrary: Zombie Edition
Registration Required
{Algonquin} Zombie invasion at the library! The library will be serving brains pizza. For grades 4-8 that register at the library.

30 & 31 October 1:00 p.m. Last-Minute Halloween Costume
Registration Required 
{Algonquin} All day cosplay workshop with last-minute Halloween costume ideas. Make a masquerade mask or sew a quick cape! For teens.

30 October 3:00 p.m. Halloween Toon-Tacular
Registration Required 
{Fox Lake} Halloween episodes of your favorite cartoons! There will be pizza! For teens.

30 October 3:30 p.m. Glow in the Dark Bath Bomb
{Algonquin} Teens – Make homemade bath bombs that glow in the dark and have a scary surprise inside!

30 October 6:00 p.m. Essential Houdini
{Marengo} GASP at the story of his remarkable death; RELIVE his baffling magic and escapes; HEAR the only known recording of his voice. William Pack will astound and amaze us with stories and tricks from the one and only Harry Houdini. For ages 10 and older.

31 October 3:30 p.m. Pumpkin Decorating
{Algonquin} Decorate a pumpkin with paint and other materials. For teens.
