Strawberry and Berry Picking in McHenry County

My kids can eat their weight in berries and then some! Find unlimited berries which will make for some amazing smoothies, shakes, pies and cakes, or just breakfast in my house! Read on to find where you can pick your berries locally.

U-Pick Strawberries in McHenry County

Strawberry picking season usually starts the middle of June and lasts anywhere from 2-4 weeks, so plan your visit(s) accordingly.  All dates are tentative and you must call ahead to confirm crop status and picking conditions.

Cody’s Farm and Orchard

Opening June 13, Picking daily once the season opens from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. when conditions are acceptable. Check their Facebook page and website for updates and picking conditions. Be aware that there is a walk to the patch so this might not be the best choice if you have small children.  If you are unable to pick they also have pre-picked strawberries available for purchase at their farm stand. Heider’s Berry Farm

Picking daily starting June 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from June- September (frost) Hours are flexible depending on weather and supply. Be sure to check their website for updated information on weather conditions and picking as well as updated prices.  Please note this farm accepts cash or checks only.

Stade’s Farm and Market 
2709 W. Miller Rd., McHenry | (815) 675-6396
Picking daily beginning Tuesday, June 16 from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m
Stade’s offers nearly 20 acres of fresh strawberries available for picking. There is a $5. 00 minimum purchase per person required to enter the strawberry patch which is a 1 qt basket. Tom’s Farm and Market

U-Pick Blueberries, Raspberries, and Cherries in McHenry County

McCann’s Berry Farm {Blueberries}

Blueberry picking is available on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. Wednesday hours are from 8:00 a.m. until picked out (generally by 2:00 p.m.) and  Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until picked out (generally by 1:00 p.m.).
Blueberries are in season generally around mid-July through the second week of August. While they are not certified organic, they use an Integrated Pest Management Approach to control crop pests, and use as little pesticides as possible. Which is important to me and my family. They ONLY take cash or checks so come prepared. Be sure to check the website for updated information on weather conditions, picking, and prices.  This farm provides picking containers and allows you to bring them home with you. Feel free to bring a lunch and use their picnic area. Heider’s Berry Farm  { Black Raspberries, & Gold Raspberries}

Picking daily from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Black Raspberries are offered from July until August and gold raspberries in July- September. They also have pre-picked cherries for sale.  Picking containers are provided for your use and for taking berries home. Drinks may be purchased at the farm stand but not brought from home. Please note that currently only cash or checks are accepted. 

Stade’s Farm and Market  {Raspberries}

They offer raspberry picking daily from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The summer crop begins early July and the fall crop begins in mid-August and continues to produce until early to mid-October. Credit cards and cash are accepted. Head to Stade’s Facebook page for updates and picking conditions.
