Strawberry and Berry Picking in McHenry County

My kids can eat their weight in berries and then some! Find unlimited berries which will make for some amazing smoothies, shakes, pies and cakes, or just breakfast in my house! Read on to find where you can pick your berries locally.

strawberry picking in mchenry countyStrawberry picking season usually starts the middle of June and lasts anywhere from 2-4 weeks, so plan your visit(s) accordingly. 

U-Pick Strawberries in McHenry County 

Cody’s Farm and Orchard

Picking daily once the season opens  from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Check their Facebook page and website for updates and picking conditions but as it stands, picking begins early June, however conditions vary due to weather.
Be aware that there is a walk to the patch so this might not be the best choice if you have small children.   If you are unable to pick  they also have pre-picked strawberries  available for purchase at their farm stand.

Heider’s Berry Farm

Picking daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from June- September (Frost) Hours are flexible depending on weather and supply.

McCann’s Berry Farm

Mid-June to July 4th (strawberries): 8am to 4pm daily
It has been 35 years since McCann’s farm has had their strawberry farm. While they are not certified organic, they use an Integrated Pest Management Approach to control crop pests, and use as little pesticides as possible.  Which is important to me and my family. They ONLY take cash or checks so come prepared.

Stade’s Farm and Market 
2709 W. Miller Rd., McHenry
Picking daily from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m Opening Mid-June, exact day TBA.
Stade’s offers nearly 20 acres of fresh strawberries available for picking. There is a $4. 00 minimum purchase per person required to enter the strawberry patch which is a 1 qt basket. Baskets are included in the price and you are only allowed to pick into Stade’s containers.  Check their Facebook page for updates and picking conditions.

Tom’s Farm and Market

U-Pick Blueberries, Raspberries, and Cherries

According to their website, “Picking raspberries at GraceFarmStudios is more like picking berries in a botanical garden than at a conventional raspberry farm.” as there are many natural plants and migratory birds. They pride themselves in being one of the only farms in Illinois to plant berries in high tunnels the way they do in the UK.  This farm does not use synthetic pesticides so be warned that there may be bees and other insects.  There is a port-a-potty on the farm, as well as a very small parking lot that holds ten cars.

Heider’s Berry Farm  { Black Raspberries, & Gold Raspberries}

Black Raspberries are offered from July until August and gold  raspberries in July- September.hey also have pre-picked cherries for sale.  Picking containers are provided for your use and for taking berries home. Drinks may be purchased at the farm stand but not brought from home. Please note that currently only cash or checks are accepted.

McCann’s Berry Farm  {blueberries}

Blueberry picking is available on Wednesdays and Saturdays only.  Wednesdays: 8 am until picked out (generally by 2 pm) and  Saturdays: 8 am until picked out (generally by 1 pm).
Blueberries are in season generally around July 10th thru 2nd week of August. But check their website for picking updates if you do not want to miss them.  Please call ahead for picking conditions and ONLY cash or check is accepted as payment.

Stade’s Farm and Market  {raspberries}

They  offer raspberry picking daily from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The summer crop begins early July and the fall crop begins in mid-August and continues to produce until early to mid-October.You are only allowed to pick using Stade’s containers, and there is a $4 per person minimum purchase required which equals a 1 qt container.
