Open Play
Every Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm Street, McHenry
Families and their friends are invited to the playhouse for playtime. Open play helps promote positive beginnings for new families with a child with Down syndrome, creates awareness opportunities for peers and friends, and provides support and networking for families. Come ready for fun and a crazy good time! Open to families with children of all ages and their friends.

Special Events for Children with Special Needs

Teen Tastic
1 November 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm Street, McHenry | (815) 385-7529 
Focuses on building social skills with friends without Down syndrome by participating in team-based activities in a casual and fun setting. 
Recommended for ages 13 -17 years old.

Connections Storytime
4 November 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.
Algonquin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Dr., Algonquin | (847) 458-6060
A storytime for children to make connections with their caregivers, other children and literacy. Designed for the inclusion of children with developmental delays. All abilities are welcome. For ages 0-5 with parent/caregiver

Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington | (847) 382-1300
Children enjoy books, music, and movement activities designed to engage the senses and build language and literacy skills. For children of all abilities.

Perspective Play *Registration required*
7 November 4:00- 5:00 p.m.
Algonquin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Dr., Algonquin | (847) 458-6060
Lead by Preston Brown from Behavioral Perspective, move, groove, and interact with other kids. Designed for the participation of children with autism. Ages 3-5.

Kids Club
9 November 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Gigi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm St., McHenry | (*15) 385-7529
This program is designed to support the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting! Kids Club supports gross motor skills through active games, fine motor and self- help skills through meal/snack preparation and activities. Our Kids Club program is recommended for 8—12 year olds

Sensory Storytime *Registration required*
9 November 1:30 – 2:15 p.m.
Crystal Lake Public Library, 126 Paddock Street, Crystal Lake | (815) 459-1687
This storytime, designed for children with special needs, features movement, music, stories, and hand-on activities. Siblings are welcome. Registration required.

AMC Sensory Friendly Films 
9 & 23 November, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
AMC Theatres in Lake in the Hills and South Barrington
AMC is proud to partner with the Autism Society to offer unique movie showings where the theaters turn the lights up and turn the sound down, so you can get up and dance, walk, shout or sing! 

Sensory Playtime *Registration required*
11 November 10:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Marengo-Union Library District, 10714 E. Grant Highway, Marengo
For young ones ages 2-4. Toddlers will have the opportunity to stimulate the senses with a variety of activities, which also enhance learning and encourage exploration. Please register in advance.

17 November, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Kohl Children’s Museum, 2100 Patriot Boulevard, Glenview
This special morning event offers free admission to families with children with special needs to explore the Museum exhibits in a controlled, quieter environment.

LMNOP
23 November 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm St., McHenry | (815) 385-7529
LMNOP is an interactive and engaging program designed to guide parents and young children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication using music and language based activities.  LMNOP is recommended for ages Newborn-36 months.  Fun new theme each month!
