Time to Start Jamming…
Watching your kids building sand castles on the beach, checking out the boats swaying on the water, running into neighbors and friends, sharing laughter, snacks, and drinks and listening to local music…sounds like a vacation, right? At Crystal Lake Summer Concerts on the Beach, you can make this perfect night happen every Tuesday during the summer months.
My typical happiness factor living in McHenry County is always pretty high, but it does increase when the summer months hit and we are able to take advantage of the variety of outdoor events and activities offered to families. Main Beach in Crystal Lake hosts a free summer concert series each year which is our very own Ravinia, but on a cozier scale.
A variety of bands and musical styles are offered from week to week, so you can support the community listening to the Crystal Lake Community Band, do the Calypso with Mr. Myers, teach your kids to Country Line Dance to Wild Daisy, or listen to top 40’s hits when Ear Candy performs.
After 5:00 p.m., there is no admission fee or parking charge, so you can try to get to Main Beach early and reserve a picnic table or a spot in the grass. Pack up your folding chairs and blankets and even a picnic dinner if you want to make an entire evening of it. Bring juice boxes for the kids and mommy/daddy drinks if you so desire, as alcohol is permitted. Clean beach bathrooms are open and available to patrons as well. Main Beach closes once the music stops, usually at dusk after a spectacular sunset over the water…ahh.
Summer Concert Lineup
The lineup for the summer concert series is as follows:

Please note there is also a Crystal Lake Community Band Showcase on Sunday, July 23rd from 12:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, August 5th, the Blast on the Beach (which is another fun family-friendly event in town) will feature Dick Diamond and the Dusters at 6:00 p.m.
In the event of inclement weather, some concerts will be moved to Park Place Banquets at 406 W. Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake. Decisions will be made by 4:00 p.m. on the day of the concert. Outside food and beverage are not permitted at Park Place. If the weather is bad, the June 27 concert will be outright canceled due to space restrictions.
There are few better things in life to me than watching my carefree kids dance in pure happiness with their friends (and of course me, if they will allow it!) This is an amazing opportunity to see this childhood joy every week throughout the chaos of summertime and to be reminded of what’s important in life…family, friendship, and living every day to it’s fullest. If you enjoy music and the beach, make sure to check out this fun Tuesday night tradition. Warning: once you start attending these concerts, you will be “busy” on Tuesday summer nights from here on out…
