That sounds way more disgusting than what it actually is. Pumpkin chucking is a “thing” and apparently, enough of a “thing” that this is the second article about said chucking. I was just as surprised as you. If you are unaware of what the practice of chucking pumpkins is, it is the act of hurling pumpkins across a field, dropping pumpkins from a high elevation or basically just decimating pumpkins. I personally can’t watch such a violent act against pumpkins, but if seeing vegetables (fruits?) destroyed is your thing, I say why not have a blast doing it!

Stade’s has been chucking pumpkins for years and has a special cannon to launch them through the air hourly. Check the website for times.

The Vernon Hills School Science Department brings their trebuchet to launch pumpkins ($4 per pumpkin). There will be other activities and prizes too! Please bring one uncarved pumpkin per participant.
Roll it! – Pumpkin Roll Events

November 4, 11:30 a.m.
Roll a pumpkin down a steep hill and watch how far it will go or smash! Bring your own pumpkins from home and roll them for free or register for the event, enter the contest, and win a special prize for landing on the lucky pumpkin spot. Pre-registration preferred, but day of event registration will be available. Fee: $8 resident/ $10 non-resident and includes one pumpkin and one raffle entry.

If my fellow Little Lake County writer Tracy didn’t tell me about this, I wouldn’t have believed it. Among many other fun fall attractions, Goebbert’s offers a robotic dinosaur who will eat pumpkins. Head to the link above to check out the video before you head down.
Drop it! – Pumpkin Drop Events
Annual Pumpkin Drop, Keith Mione Community Park, Mundelein
November 5, 12:30 p.m.
Bring your pumpkins (1 per person) to the Community Park Sled Hill and watch them soar, roll and compost! Mundelein High School will have Big Red, the trebuchet to launch pumpkins. Pumpkins that aren’t launched can be rolled and smashed. Don’t miss this fun and FREE event for the whole family.
