Weekly Events for Children with Special Needs:

Open Play
Every Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm Street, McHenry | (815) 385-7529
Families and their friends are invited to the playhouse for playtime. Open play helps promote positive beginnings for new families with a child with Down syndrome, creates awareness opportunities for peers and friends, and provides support and networking for families. Come ready for fun and a crazy good time! Open to families with children of all ages and their friends.

Special Events for Children with Special Needs:

Teen Tastic
1 February 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm Street, McHenry | (815) 385-7529
Focuses on building social skills with friends without Down syndrome by participating in team-based activities in a casual and fun setting.
Recommended for ages 13 -17 years old.

Creative Connections
4 & 25 February, 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. 

Algonquin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Dr., Algonquin | (847) 458-6060
A storytime for children ages 0-5 to make connections with their caregivers, other children, and literacy. Run by a speech therapist from Elgin Pediatric Therapy, this group is designed for children currently receiving therapy services or those who may benefit from therapeutic play, yet children with all abilities 

Show me a Sign
7 & 21 February, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Learn basic sign language for communication. All are welcome to attend.

Sensory Story Time*RR*

Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington 
All ages and their caregiver can enjoy books, music, and movement activities designed to engage the senses and build language and literacy skills. For children of all abilities. 

AMC Sensory Friendly Films 
9 & 23 February 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
AMC Theatres in Lake in the Hills and South Barrington
AMC is proud to partner with the Autism Society to offer unique movie showings where the theaters turn the lights up, and turn the sound down, so you can get up and dance, walk, shout or sing! 

Kids Club
9 February,  10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

This program is designed to support the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting! Kids Club supports gross motor skills through active games, fine motor, and self- help skills through meal/snack preparation and activities. The Kids Club program is recommended for 8—12 year olds

Sensory Storytime *RR*

This storytime, designed for children with special needs, features movement, music, stories, and hands-on activities. Siblings are welcome.

Sensory Playtime *RR*
11 February 10:00 – 10:30 a.m.

Marengo-Union Library District, 19714 E. Grant Highway, Marengo
For children ages 2-4. Toddlers will have the opportunity to stimulate the senses with a variety of activities, which also enhance learning and encourage exploration.

Perspective Play *RR*
16 February 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.

Move, groove, communicate and interact. Lead by Preston Brown from Behavioral Perspective, this program is designed for children with autism and others who may benefit from these interactions. All abilities are welcome. For children between the ages of 3 and 7.

 LMNOP is an interactive and engaging program designed to guide parents and young children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication using music and language based activities.  LMNOP is recommended for ages Newborn-36 months.
