Weekly Events for Children with Special Needs:
Every Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm Street, McHenry
Families and their friends are invited to the playhouse for playtime. Open play helps promote positive beginnings for new families with a child with Down syndrome, creates awareness opportunities for peers and friends, and provides support and networking for families. Come ready for fun and a crazy good time! Open to families with children of all ages and their friends.
Mondays, 3 & 10 December 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.
Algonquin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Dr., Algonquin | (847) 458-6060
A storytime for children ages 0-5 to make connections with their caregivers, other children, and literacy. Run by a speech therapist from Elgin Pediatric Therapy, this group is designed for children currently receiving therapy services or those who may benefit from therapeutic play, yet children with all abilities are welcome.
2 December 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym, 553 E. Dundee Rd., Palantine
Admission is $15 and per-registration is required. Fun Chanukah party at We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym! Learning about ALL children and ALL cultures! OPEN GYM, songs, crafts, and yummy goodies!
2 & 9 December 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.
The Arboretum of South Barrington, 100 W. Higgins Rd., South Barrington Individuals with all spectrums of special needs and their families are invited to a private photo session where extra care is taken to support the sensory, physical and other developmental needs to make this a magical holiday experience. Reservations Required.

AMC is proud to partner with the Autism Society to offer unique movie showings where we turn the lights up, and turn the sound down, so you can get up, dance, walk, shout or sing!

GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm St., Suite A., McHenry
This program is designed to support the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting! Kids Club supports gross motor skills through active games, fine motor and self- help skills through meal/snack preparation and activities. The Kids Club program is recommended for 8—12 year olds
8 December 10:00 -10:45 a.m.
Algonquin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Dr., Algonquin
Registration Required. Children ages 3 – 7 can move, groove, communicate and interact. Lead by Preston Brown from Behavioral Perspective, this program is designed for children with autism and others who may benefit from these interactions. All abilities are welcome.
8 December 1:30 – 2:15 p.m.
Crystal Lake Public Library 126 Paddock Street, Crystal Lake
This storytime, designed for children with special needs, features movement, music, stories, and hand-on activities. Siblings are welcome. Registration required.
10 December 10:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Marengo-Union Library District, 19714 E. Grant Hwy, Marengo
This now permanent club was developed for young ones ages 2-4. Toddlers will have the opportunity to stimulate the senses with a variety of activities, which also enhance learning and encourage exploration. Please register in advance.
