Weekly Events for Children with Special Needs

Open Play
Every Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm Street, McHenry
Families and their friends are invited to the playhouse for playtime. Open play helps promote positive beginnings for new families with a child with Down syndrome, creates awareness opportunities for peers and friends, and provides support and networking for families. Come ready for fun and a crazy good time! Open to families with children of all ages and their friends.

Special Events for Children with Special Needs:

Teen Tastic
6 December 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm Street, McHenry | (815) 385-7529 
Focuses on building social skills with friends without Down syndrome by participating in team-based activities in a casual and fun setting. 
Recommended for ages 13 -17 years old.

Soothing Santa
8 December 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

The Arboretum of South Barrington, 100 W. Higgins Rd., South Barrington Individuals with all spectrums of special needs and their families are invited to a private photo session where extra care is taken to support the sensory, physical and other developmental needs to make this a magical holiday experience. Reservations Required.

Sensory Playtime
9 December 10:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Marengo-Union Library District, 19714 E. Grant Hwy, Marengo
This now-permanent club was developed for young ones ages 2-4. Toddlers will have the opportunity to stimulate the senses with a variety of activities, which also enhance learning and encourage exploration. Please register in advance.

AMC Sensory Friendly Films
14 & 28 December 10:00 a.m.

AMC South Barrington 24, 175 Studio Dr., South Barrington
AMC is proud to partner with the Autism Society to offer unique movie showings where we turn the lights up, and turn the sound down, so you can get up, dance, walk, shout or sing!

Kids Club
14 December 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm St., Suite A., McHenry
This program is designed to support the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting! Kids Club supports gross motor skills through active games, fine motor and self- help skills through meal/snack preparation and activities. The Kids Club program is recommended for 8—12 year olds

Sensory Storytime
14 December 1:30 – 2:15 p.m.
Crystal Lake Public Library 126 Paddock Street, Crystal Lake
This storytime, designed for children with special needs, features movement, music, stories, and hand-on activities. Siblings are welcome. Registration required.

LMNOP
23 November 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
GiGi’s Playhouse, 5404 W. Elm St., McHenry | (815) 385-7529
LMNOP is an interactive and engaging program designed to guide parents and young children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication using music and language based activities.  LMNOP is recommended for ages Newborn-36 months.  Fun new theme each month!
