The Holidays Shine Bright at McHenry County Tree Lightings

Your children will ooh and ahhh and delight in staying up after dark (we won’t tell them it’s only 6:00 p.m.!) when you light up the holidays at a McHenry County Tree Lighting. From lighted parades to Santa there is a little something for everyone at these events. Find the tree lighting in your town or venture a little farther with our tree lighting map located at the end.

24 November 5:00 p.m. Lighting of the Woodstock Square
Visit the beautiful and historic Square on the Friday after Thanksgiving and help the City of Woodstock usher in the official start to the holiday season. With the flip of a switch, tens of thousands of twinkling lights are illuminated on Park trees and Square buildings, ushering in the magic of Christmas in a Victorian-era setting.

24 November 2:00 p.m. Fox Lake Festival of Lights and Tree Lighting
Celebrate the Holiday spirit with the Village of Fox Lake at the Festival of Lights! Prior to the parade and tree lighting, attend a Kris Kringle Winter Market located at the community Garden Green from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. The parade will start at 5 p.m. at Grant Community High school and march down Grand Avenue. Immediately Following the parade there will be the Annual Tree Lighting at Millennium Park.


1 December 3:30 p.m. Spring Grove Christmas Tree Lighting Festival
An evening of Christmas fun including visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, hay wagon rides, storytelling, and crafts. The Tree lighting will be at 5:00 p.m.

1 December 4:00 p.m. A Very Merry Huntley
Head to the Huntley Town Square for an afternoon of holiday fun. The day includes visits with live reindeer, Santa’s arrival on a fire truck, lighting of the Christmas Tree in the Gazebo and Town Square and a holiday fireworks show!

1 December 4:00 p.m. Christmas in Harvard
A day full of Christmas Fun culminates in the tree lighting at Five Points. See event listing for the schedule of other events including visits with Santa.

1 December 5:30 p.m. Holiday Rock on the Fox
Celebrate the holidays with family activities for everyone to enjoy. The event includes Christmas Music, activities a visit from Santa and the tree lighting. Admission is free but a Toys for Tots donation is requested.

1 December 6:00 p.m. Cary Holiday Walk & Tree Lighting
Enjoy holiday trees decorated by groups from all over the Cary community, visit with Santa and his live reindeer and weather permitting skating, as well as the annual tree lighting.

7 December 6:30 p.m.  Christmas of Yesteryear
Head back in time for some old fashion Christmas fun. The tree lighting will take place in Stevens Park and then immediately following it there will be visits with Santa in Memorial Hall.
